Why do women spend so much time mulling over different hairsyles? And why is it such a major catastrophe (process) when we visit our stylist?
I have been debating whether I should cut my hair and add some layers for the past few months, but I always chicken out every time I’m due for a trim. And every time, I leave feeling like it looks exactly the same as it always has.
Because it DOES.
I’m a bit of a pansy when it comes to taking hair ‘risks,’ (is that even a thing?). That’s because I had the WORST haircut of my life in 8th grade. Not exaggerating, folks. It was BAD. As in, I could only feather it on top and it was cut to just under my ears. It didn’t help that I had been given a mouth full of metal the week prior, so I wasn’t feeling too confident as a 13-year-old learning to wear a bra.
I was miserable.
Pretty sure I cried myself to sleep the first few nights. Then came the waitress asking me while dining out with family, ‘What will HE have?’
Gahhhhhhh. They thought I was a boy!
*Cue the bright red lipstick-wearing phase*
So, there you have it. I’m now a mother of two, ready for a change, and feeling suddenly brave. I might just go for it later today when I sit down in my stylist’s chair.
I mean, it’s just hair…right? That’s what Kevin says, uncertain about why women fuss over printing a photo of a style to share with their stylist. He’s been teasing me this week. I know it sounds silly and appears to be a waste of time. He doesn’t get it, but he also didn’t cry buckets of tears as a shy teenager.
Yes, I was actually shy at one time. (And even stuttered.)
I’ll keep you posted…cross your fingers!
